Instructions
What you’ll need:
Tester, Plugs, Crimping Tool.
Installing a plug:
STEP 1:
Properly orient each end of your cord (ensure the order of colored wires is the same for each plug).
STEP 2:
Firmly press the cord into the plug.
STEP 3:
Install the connector onto the cord.
See notes about crimping tools at the end of these instructions.
STEP 4:
Observe that all pins are seated uniformally.
STEP 5:
Test the cable assembly.
Check for cross-wiring and intermittent connections.
Observe tester while gently flexing the cord to ensure you have good connections.
FOR BEST RESULTS…
it is essential that you
(1) install these plugs with a high-quality crimping tool, and
(2) you test the cable assembly before using.
CRIMPING TOOLS
Our experience is that low-cost crimping tools (less than $60) vary widely in performance. You might find a tool that makes a solid connection, but it’s more likely your cord will be intermittent. The tool must press all pins to the same depth, and all pins must be adequately pressed to ensure penetration of wire. Ratcheting tools make good, uniform assemblies.
The crimper shown in these pictures is an obsolete unit from Amp/Tyco; unfortunately, it is no longer available.
The only crimper we recommend is the Panduit MPT5-8AS.
